What We Do
Shaping Spaces is a youth programme aimed at young people aged 16-25 years old (though we will consider people aged up to 30 years old) who are not in employment, education or training and who are seeking experience and support to move on to new opportunities. It is run by Bradford Environment Education Service (BEES) at Bradford YMCA on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The programme runs for 12 weeks and includes a day each week outdoors doing land management, horticultural and landscaping tasks alongside experienced professionals; and a day developing life skills, knowledge and understanding. This is an opportunity to increase skills, confidence and employability, and to gain a Level 1 qualification in Horticulture.
Shaping Spaces Social Enterprise offers high quality conservation, landscaping and maintenance services, we work on contracts to improve green spaces for the benefit of public, business and wildlife. Our services include the creation of wild flower areas and wildlife habitats, path building and maintenance, construction of raised beds, fences and steps, and much more. If you have a green space you wish to improve, contact us to discuss your requirements.
Our contract work has the added value that people who are unemployed, or have time on their hands, can volunteer with us. Volunteers have the opportunity to work alongside our experienced staff to learn new skills, gain work experience and self confidence leading to increased employment and training opportunities.
We work with community members, groups and organisations to agree what improvements will be made to which locations in their area, ensuring community involvement at every stage.
